Safety & Security
We believe safety should stand next to performance. Literally. That's why we opened a state of the art crash test facility right next to our racetrack in Aschheim, Germany. Front, side, and rear impacts are tested, and rollover protection is standard. And, beyond traditional testing, we also conduct computer simulations to ensure optimal safety performance.
Sometimes it's good to be called a stiff. The all-new 1 Series includes energy-absorbing front and rear ends as well as reinforced B-pillars. In addition to this added safety benefit, BMW engineers designed its body with great resistance to vibration, even on sharp bumps or washboard roads, giving you stability, comfort, and minimum squeaks and rattles.
We call two-stage, front-impact airbags "Smart Airbags." Why? With impact-measured deployment, they release in different patterns and levels depending on the crash. Front and rear Head Protection Systems, Rollover Protection Systems, Active Knee Protection, and front passenger airbags ensure you are just as safe as your passengers. In a crash, restricting passenger movement is just as important as airbag deployment. BMW automatic front safety-belt tensioners work in conjunction with the Smart Airbags to provide the right amount of tension at the right moment, helping to keep everyone secure.
We believe being able to stop quickly is even more important than being able to drive fast. That's why our enhanced braking system does more than just brake. If it's raining, it'll dry off the rotors. If you're stopped on a hill, it'll keep you from rolling. If you quickly pull your foot off the accelerator, it prepares to brake just as quickly. And, if you're braking repeatedly, it knows you need more force.
Nasty weather. Terrible road conditions. A deer crossing. When a driver loses control, there's usually more than one factor involved. Using built-in sensors to continually monitor multiple variables - such as speed, steering angle, yaw, brake pressure and traction - our Dynamic Stability Control system can detect and, more importantly, help correct the loss of wheel traction immediately. All of which helps to keep you in control, no matter what the circumstances.
